I also had the opportunity to sail with my friends on Majic from Chicago. We did the Port Huron to Macinac Race and won our class handily. We raced the Southhampton course-- 265 miles. Then off to England to sail with the venerable Barking Mad crew in Cowes Race Week. This race week is one of the oldest and most participated in regattas in the world. This is where the Americas Cup began in the mid-1800's. We got to race a warm-up regatta for the worlds, and tune against many of the European boats. This week-- they were no match for us. Winning 6 of 9 races and taking the one-design regatta. The remainder of the week was spent in mixed classes racing around the Solent. Incredible sailing and great company! Followed up with a regatta in Miami-- Lewmar Cup-- in which we narrowly took first in a very competitive fleet! |
I coupled the sailing trip in England with a stop in Paris for a week and hang out with Tom. Cool time there-- did lots, saw lots September 11 also impacted the fall...
Finally got my motorcycle back in early December, just in time to hurt my neck flying. I herniated a disc in my cervical spine while trying to move my head pulling G's. Under 6 or 7 G's, a 10 pound head weighs 60-70 pounds. The neck wasn't made for rotating with those loads. Sooo....needless to say, I was out of action for a while. I eventually had surgery in February and am currently recovering, looking to be back in action-- flying, sailing and motorcycling-- in early summer. |
