The excuse matrix is long for this race, but it boils down to...Bad prep for race-- weld on steering damper had a hole in oil sump-- oil everywhere-- JB Weld on front side held well, but lack of set time allowed oil to leak from left aft corner of bracket. First loop was ok-- two crashes in quick sucession at 5-6 miles into race set me behind until the first reset. Then took my heavy gloves off and put on my moto gloves and rode a lot better-- zeroed out all subsequent checks except for burning 1st loop finish by a few seconds-- did the slow approach trying to save time, but put my foot down a few seconds before my time and got scored in the minute before mine... 2nd loop started off well-- good timekeeping until the first reset and the at the speed |
change after the reset, myself and two others from my minute went off in totally the wrong direction-- by the time we got back to the speed change, we had lost SEVEN minutes...spent the rest of the race trying to catch up in some very tough terrain-- up to 12 minutes late at one check. Managed to get back to 2 minutes late at the finish... If you want to see how fast you can go, just get way behind and then you don't have to worry about timing-- you also don't have to worry about winning either.... Total distance: 71 miles. Overall a good finish to the season and my second real enduro, getting the timing down well. I need a bigger clock instead of a Ironman watch. Hopefully an enduro computer will help solve some of these problems. Run by the Checkpoint MC, they did a great job of hosting and organizing the race! |
